> We aspire for greater gender diversity in technology
While progress has been made, the tech workforce is still disproportionately male. As an emerging talent partner for organizations, we asked ourselves, how can we do more?
Through our ‘Aspire Program’, we’re running women-only Java development and AWS training cohorts in the US and UK for graduates from a variety of degree backgrounds. Helping employers build a more diverse workforce for the future.
> Broadening requirements
The typical entry requirements for a junior tech role often rule out graduates with huge passion and potential. Our Aspire Program focuses on a graduate’s aptitude and skills instead of their degree subject. This taps into a larger talent pool and helps bring more women into the training.
> Maintaining quality
We assess every graduate’s problem-solving skills, communication skills, and potential to succeed. They then join the Wiley Edge Academy for a full-time instructor-led online training program. Graduates learn the career-vital professional skills and technical skills they need to start their career as a Full-Stack Java Developer.
Key skills covered include:
By the end of the course, trainees will be able to:
-
Design, develop, and test a full-stack Java application.
-
Use SQL to retrieve data from a relational database.
-
Demonstrate professionalism, including communication skills and personal interactions.
-
Explain market and financial concepts at a high level.
In addition, classes in the US will cover AWS Certified Solutions Architect training.
> Diversifying tech teams
Aspire trainees then join tech teams on-site through our tried and tested Alumni program. They are continually upskilled throughout the program. Employers can then convert Alumni to permanent employees at no extra cost.
