Starting your first job after graduating university and heading into the world of work is exciting!

Since the pandemic, the working world has been turned on its head. Much of what we were used to and thought was effective, could no longer be done. Since then, we’ve had to adapt to new ways of working. Companies around the world have taken up remote working a few days a week, or full time.

However, many businesses are asking people to head to the office because of the huge benefits it offers. If you’re wondering why working from the office is important, take a read below.

> Healthy work life balance

It can be beneficial to keep your home life and your work life entirely separate. By going into an office, you get to leave all your work life at the office. This helps you switch off from work when you arrive home.

Also, going into the office stops your personal life following you into the office environment. Your daily distractions are far away, such as your favorite tv show, noisy housemates, and that load of washing that really needs doing.

Spending your Wednesday binge-watching television instead of preparing for a presentation you have to do will negatively affect your performance and that of your team.

> Feel part of the company culture

When you see your team members in person, you gain social interactions that you lack by working from home.

Being together in the office gives coworkers a sense of belonging and supports the company culture. You’re more likely to spend time together and socialize like going for lunch during your break.

> Improved teamwork and collaboration

It can be more difficult to share ideas and work collaboratively when you’re communicating via a screen. For some people this can work, but it’s not the same as being in a room together.

In the office, you get that face to face interaction where you can read each other’s body language, discovering how they really feel about an idea.

You’re also able to get immediate feedback by talking to your team around you, helping you learn more quickly.

> Opportunities to shine

Working from the office allows for more opportunities for you to shine.

Being around your manager and other leadership members lets them see how hard working, engaged and resourceful you are. Speaking with colleagues on a daily basis means that you can show them what you are really capable of.

When working in the office, you’ll speak with colleagues that you maybe don’t directly work with. This gives you the opportunity to build relationships outside of your team and become more visible in the company.

This is especially beneficial in the beginning of your career. Not only can you prove yourself, but you can also learn from others around you to help progress your career further.

> Access to company resources

Heading into the office allows you to access resources you may not have at home. Offices often have proper desk setups, which are better for your physical health.

They also have break-out areas and meeting rooms to make use of. Most of the time, you can reduce any technical issues by heading into the office, as you are not relying on your home Wi-Fi.
